Supporting One Client’s Journey to Better

One of my recent projects is finally live! I recreated a brand-new website for Talley Webb, the Founder and Principal Consultant for Journey to Better Therapeutic Consulting. Talley does incredible, essential work connecting parents and their children with therapy and treatment services. My passion and support for her mission were the creative force behind my work on her site. I can relate somewhat to what she’s doing because I have kids and understand the importance of mental health, especially with how the pandemic had a major effect on the youth of today.

I want to talk about the creative process behind my work. A past client referred Talley to me (it always seems to be word of mouth). Talley had an existing, bare-bones website she created from a template. There wasn’t a brand, though. It didn’t have a distinct voice. That’s where I stepped in. Talley gave me some assets she liked. From there, I created a mood board consisting of different facets of her personality. She’s an avid nature lover, which played a significant role in formulating her new site. Leaning into a nature theme helps folks feel more comfortable since the subject of Talley’s work is serious.

Much of what we worked into her site visually is pretty watercolor textures and illustrations, giving it more depth. Another goal was to make the site simple to read and easy for folks to digest information since there’s a lot of it. We wanted prospective clients to feel calm and know they’re entering a safe space, as if to say, “I’ve got you.”

The main challenge I faced when creating Talley’s website was carefully selecting the right imagery and using sensitive messaging. Mental health and substance use are heavy subjects. Talley also, rightfully so, wanted her voice to come through, so the key was to nail the perfect tone while incorporating her voice. We wanted the site to provide comfort with calming visuals that didn’t read as cheesy or over the top. It’s a fine line to walk.

I’m proud of the work I’ve done. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Talley on this. What she does is important. We could use more focus on mental wellness.
