Leap Into Your Zone of Genius

Recently, I had the privilege of reading Gay Hendricks's The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life to the Next Level for Anne LaFollette’s Creative Business Mastermind. Full disclosure: it’s a bit life-changing.

For those not in the know, Gay is a psychologist, teacher, and writer with over four decades of experience, helping countless people worldwide in their personal growth journeys. His book really reframes your thinking and helps you see past your self-imposed limitations. Instead of falling victim to your circumstances, The Big Leap encourages you to take charge of your life.

Gay also urges you to work in your “zone of genius.” This means finding your passions – what you truly excel at – and focusing on those. Live in that zone. As he says in his book, “The goal in life is not to attain some imaginary ideal; it is to find and fully use our own gifts.” How can we know what we’re truly capable of if we’re slapping limits on ourselves without at least trying?

As for those pesky limitations or, as Gay calls it, ULP (Upper Limit Problem), he asks us to examine how we’re getting in our own way. He offers insight on acknowledging, navigating, and ultimately moving past our biggest obstacle to success and happiness (you guessed it – ourselves). If you’ve ever found yourself saying, “Oh, I can’t do that,” as a knee-jerk reaction to even the introduction of a possibility, this book will undoubtedly resonate with you.

He dispenses plenty of powerful tools and invaluable wisdom for taking life to the next level. These include meditation to cement new healthy habits, especially when overcoming the ULP we place on ourselves.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to banish fears and habits that don’t serve them!
